A beaver! Wait ... Correction ... a Muskrat! While trying to get another photo of a snow goose, I noticed a strange ripple and turned my camera that direction. Swimming toward me was a beaver ... no ... a muskrat. I don't know much about beaver habitats, but this is a holding pond and is not fresh fed. That's why it's not beaver habitat. It's muskrat habitat. Still, it headed toward shore and entered a tunnel it has in the bank. Beaver ... muskrat ... they are so similar but muskrat are smaller and swim with their body exposed. Beaver swim with their body under the water ... just their head shows. Beaver like fresh water ponds ... muskrat like ponds or swampy areas. Then there is the tail. I couldn't really tell, but muskrat tails are long and slim, Not the well known flat tail of a beaver. Still. I've never, ever ever seen a muskrat. So still cool!
