pinyon jay by aecasey

pinyon jay

Three of these birds were in the yard this afternoon being harassed by a couple of blue jays. I was so surprised when I edited my photos. I had no clue what this bird was! Google and iNaturalist identified it as a Pinyon Jay, which are listed as rare in my area and vulnerable because of loss of habitat. Though I've been pouting about the change in the Nebraska BirdBlitz program which I've participated in for several years, the visit by these birds prompted me to join up. Time for May birding!
Wonderful capture.
