Preserving the Past by bkbinthecity

Preserving the Past

The Arts District of Edmonton consists of several buildings. These buildings now sit on what was once the Civic Centre of Downtown. Over the years as those buildings came down the city chose to preserve their history.
Located out front of the Winspear Centre for Performing Arts is the Civic Centre Heritage Gallery. The main building for years at the Civic Centre was the Civic Block.
The first photo is a section of the entrance from the old Police Station, the middle photo is an archive photo dating from 1916 showing the City Market and in the background is the Civic Block. The third photo shows a section preserved from the Civic Block
Interesting collage! It's so important to preserve a city's past. Thanks for sharing!

It's really marvelous to see cities that embrace their past and leave information on the buildings to share it with us!

I am so glad that the city preserved parts of this. Nowadays so many old buildings are imploded, with only demolition instead of preservation in mind.

Nice triptych. It's great that they preserved it. I think more cities need to do that instead of tearing down and putting something gaudy in its place.
