This is one of the premier landmarks in Edmonton.
The Magrath Mansion was built by William Magrath, an early Edmonton real estate developer.
Built in 1912 the original cost was priced at $30,000 but the final costs including all of the landscape as well as a Coach House in the back,
came in much closer to $85,000.
It is red brick and wood exterior. Three stories, 14 rooms and 5 full bathrooms,
There was also an indoor pool as well as a billiard room.
William Magrath passed away in 1920 and his wife and son lived here until 1931 when they were forced to move because of back taxes owed to the city.
It was vacant unti 1937 when it was converted into rental suites.
In 1948 the Ukarnian Greek Catholic Church bout it as a residence for their bishop and offices.
The pool was removed and a library put in. The billiard room became a visitor suite.
In 1996 it became a private residence once again
Interesting history, Brian. Great photo of such an amazing place. Love all the detail you captured and that beautiful brick and the snow. So cold there. FAV
