In 1902 a Dr. Wilbert McIntyre moved to Edmonton. After four years of practicing medicine he ran for public office and was elected as a member of parliament in a by-election that was held. He held this postion until he passed away from a short illness in 1909.
His popularity became evident when tgis drinking fountain was erected in his honour in 1913.
It was repaired in the 1950's after a car ran into it. Today it stands in a park in the Old Strathcona area a block off of Whyte Avenue
