The Armoury by bkbinthecity

The Armoury

Across the street from the cafe in yesterday's post sits the Connaught Armoury. Built in 1911-12 making this the oldest armoury in Alberta. It was named after the Duke of Connaught the son of Queen Victoria and the Governor General of Canada at the time.
It became home to the 10th Alberta Dragoons Regiment during both World Wars.
The building closed in 1964 and was slated for demolition in the early 1970's.
Fortunately the building was saved. It became home to a number of restaurants and a night club. Today it is used as a drop in centre for the Youth Emergency Shelter
Lovely shot and interesting information.

Nice capture. The building looks sturdy enough to be around another 100 years. I like that you tell us something about what we're seeing and something of the history.
