Housing Shortage by bkbinthecity

Housing Shortage

This house was built in 1907as single family dwelling. However, when the 1940's arrived Edmonton found itself in a housing shortage due to an increased number of Americans living here who were involved in the building of the Alaska Highway, the Northwest Stage Route and a pipeline.
As a result many houses were converted into apartments or multi suites which was the case here.
Many of them remained this way even after more housing was built.
Nice architecture

What a fascinating building. My grandmother once had an apartment in a house which had also been chopped up. It was odd, but charming.

I like the 4 apartments here as compared to the modern apartment building off to the side

Very interesting history.
June 15th, 2020
Love the story behind this busy little house. It’s lucky to be still standing, given the apartment block nearby.

Fascinating

Oh my, this lovely home became a fourplex. I guess the owner liked having four rent checks delivered every month. I’m sorry for the home though!

Still pretty and retaining its original design. Many beautiful houses in Malta hav these last years been pitilessly demolished and replaced by apartment blocks without any decor.

This house has been taken very good care of- it looks so nice! I think a lot of old houses were converted this way through the years.
