I think it's safe to say this will be my last picture of this barn. I shot this on my way back from picking Joey up this afternoon! This morning it was covered with snow and this afternoon it was on fire. You can't see the flames much in this picture but the fire was burning under the roof and on the back side of the barn. Three men were out there doing their best to get it going. Bye bye barn! :(
Oh, this is so sad. All that wonderful old barn wood. Surely someone would have wanted to reuse it. Perhaps they don't know about Craig's list?? You now have quite a series of this poor old barn, Paula.
I hate to say it, but..THE DUMMIES! If they only realized how much money there is selling barn wood and beams. Mt brother paid over a grand for a piece of old beam for a fireplace mantel. The rest of the facade wood is a small fortune to entreprenuers.
Hope they enjoyed their campfire, as their retirement fund just went up in smoke.
Oh, that's a shame the owners didn't do a tear down/salvage like others have mentioned. I'm glad you had the opportunity to capture the end of this old barn, Paula...seems only right.
I love your barn pics and your comments made me laugh and the looking made me sad to see that this beautiful building would just go up in smoke and it is a shame that at least the old timbers didn't get recyled and given new life.
@barbsmith@peggysirk Thank you Barb & Peggy, I hate to admit it but I probably wouldn't have ever thought of selling the wood either but it only makes sense. I would have thought of salvaging some of it for crafting purposes but who knew it was so valuable. I told my husband maybe we should start a new business traveling around the state and offer to tear down and remove these old barns for a small fee! :)
@moncooga HA! I laughed out loud when I read your comment! I am one of the clueless ones when it comes to the value of the old barn wood. Now I know better...thanks for enlightening me!! :)
@nanascraps@mikichelle@pixelchix@ellida@sparkle@timandelke@geertje Thanks everyone for all your wonderful comments....much appreciated. I actually did take another picture of the old place this morning....nothing but a little smoke rising from where it stood...it was completely gone, just a pile of ashes! :( I'm sure a big metal building will eventually go up....not nearly as photogenic as the old wood structures!
They'd never be able to burn down an old bldg here. It would start a forest fire. Our barns have to be bulldozed & haulled off. Sad to see this one go.....

It makes a fine shot and a closure to your series however. Perhaps you may find room for just one more if something interesting happens on the site ?
cool picture!
