Not sure what this is...it was sitting waaay up high in a tree this morning so I tried getting a shot of him from the car. Nope, too far away so I got out and crossed the road to get a little closer and managed to get a couple shots off before he exploded out of the tree and left screaming at me! I'm guessing it's a Red-Tailed Hawk but he seems kind of light in color. I have been trying to get my hands on a 2x teleconverter for my 70-200 lens for months and had it on backorder for about a month.... finally got my order fulfilled a couple weeks ago and wouldn't you know it, I didn't have it with me this morning...arghhhh so all my pictures are kind of fuzzy to say the least.
oh this is a sweet shot paula. are you getting the new 2x tc111e? i've been wanting one of those too, as i don't have anything longer than 200 as well for my dslr set up. (i have up to 600mm on my micro 4/3 camera but it is not good for birds in flight).
@pixelchix Thank you Heather! I just got the Nikon TC-20E III from J&R a couple weeks ago. Amazon and everyone else was and has been out except for the sellers gouging for over $700.00. I ordered it from J&R....took about a month but they shipped it fast with free s/h and NO tax @ MSRP. Here's the link if you're interested. I have a 70-300 which I used today....just not enough reach. The 70-200 w/the teleconverter is much better and a heck of a lot cheaper than that Nikon 200-400 I want! :)
@bluemoon yup, that's the one i've been waiting for. how sharp is it wide open with your 70-200? i has the old 1.7tc and was never too keen on it, but i've read such fantastic reviews on this new 2x one. i'm seriously debating selling my d700 and buying the d7000 plus that tc, and putting what's left in the bank. i have all full frame lenses though, and i'm sure i would miss my full frame camera. we're not shooting professionally any more, and i'm not sure i really need it. want? whole other ball game!
@pixelchix Heather I haven't had a chance to use the teleconverter a whole lot but so far I think it's a keeper. I uploaded a picture I took with it back on May 1st through the my living room window.....any flaws in the picutre are my doing and not the equipment. The only drawback I can find is the weight of the lens and teleconverter but I also have a battery grip on my camera so that adds to the weight too My arm gets fatigued quickly when I'm out and about with it which is why I always take my husband with me so he can carry it when I'm tired of lugging it around! :) So far I've only used it handheld. Hope this helps.
P.S. I'd love to take that D700 off your hands but my husband would kill me....I've gone completely overboard with the photography equipment in the past 6 months so I've been cut off for now from buying anything else camera related. You should be able to fetch a good price for it though....the D700's seem to be really scare lately too! Have you ever been to the Nikonians site??? You can buy and sell on there and it's nothing but a nice group of Nikon lovers on there....someone would no doubt be happy to buy it from you! :)
