Another from yesterday's visit to the IBCC. This is the installation of the metal statues of the men that didn't come back. They are on the hill which leads up to the memorial spire. The spire, which is made from corten, a weathering steel (same as the Angel of the North), is 102ft 931.09m) high - the wingspan of the Avro Lancaster bomber. At the base it is 16ft 95m0 wide, the width of a Lancaster wing. the Spire weighs 73tons and is founded 2m underground. It is lit at night time. Impressive to say the least.
