Early Bell Heather

The moorland top is colouring with early Bell Heather, it’s such a pretty sight even though there was no sun and the promise of a soaking. It flowers to just before the true heather shows in august. It’s a brighter colour and can be easily distinguished from the August true heather. It grows mainly near and along the roadside verges with patches splashed here and there on the moorland top.

A lovely shot of this bank of bell heather - fav! I was surprised how much of it we saw today on the Moorsbus from Hutton le Hole to Castleton. It looks like a really good year for it.
