If you have pictures taken in sacral places like churches, monasteries, abbeys, cathedrals, temples, mosques, or any other places with a religious background, please show them here.
I'm not a religious person; more or less, I'm an atheist, but I do respect all kinds of religions, and I cannot deny that there is always a special power coming from such places, and I like their serene and soothing atmosphere.
I've visited a Christian church in a nearby town today, and the light inside that building was awesome. Wasn't able to capture it, but I tried to. Here's my picture:
I agree - I often find a sense of some reassurance, especially in ancient churches. Our local church is a lovely building - well over 600 years old. Here's the kids by the main door at Christmas.
Went on a trip to Worcester Cathedral last month - here's the window over the big door..
@shadowdancer I'mm not religious either, rather agnostic, but I totally agree with the special atmosphere and power of such places. I always feel small and full of respect.
@mikehamm I have hundreds of photos of the Santuario de Chimayo. My daughter lives in Taos and I enjoy visiting Chimayo whenever I'm there. Nice photo!
Wow, I'm overwhelmed by this huge response! :-) So many interesting pictures, thanks a lot! Please forgive me for not commenting on each and every one of it, they're just too many. :-O
But let me say that I like the diversity of the pictures. Religious places may look different in different parts of the world, but they all have in common that people did their very best to create a place that makes them feel close to what they believe in. Impressive!
This is an old convict-built church built in 1824 at Port Macquarie in northern New South Wales, Australia. Top right is the pulpit built in 1844. Bottom left is a painting done in 1840 showing the church as it was then. Middle bottom is the seraphine, an early form of harmonium; it was made in 1838 and used in the church in conjunction with orchestral instruments. Bottom right are the magnificent cedar box pews, still in use today.
This does it for me, I was meant to be on a shamanic journeying weekend when I took this, got there and needed to head closer to nature and the greatest god is mother nature, so this is where I ended up.
Still trying to find out about this.....best assumption built in the early 1900's and is located on the beautiful campus of Bard College, in Annadale (on the Hudson) NY
