1st November 2015

Our final travel day - the twelfth flight of our journey, this time all the way home on a direct flight.

I writing this some 6.5 miles above Mossoro - some place on the north east coast of Brazil - it's -44c outside. I'm not that sorry to be leaving Buenos Aires. It has some very nice parts but I got very frustrated having to be so wary watching out for potential muggers and having to hide my camera all the time. It makes me realise how lucky we are at home with levels of safety and personal freedom. That said, we were staying in a lovely little hotel with great staff from Venezuela and Uruguay. They seemed more like friends and welcomed us 'home' each evening.

One thing I meant to mention was the Falkland Islands! We had been rather concerned about the reception we might receive being British especially following the stupidity of the BBC 'Top Gear' programme. I'm not sure I noticed any negativity due to our nationality rather I think customer service and politeness was generally lacking in many places. However, any maps we saw show the islands with their Argentinian name 'Las Malvinas' and owned by Argentina!! I need to read some unbiased historical accounts to learn exactly how the UK come to own islands absolutely nowhere near our country.

Already Peru, Chile and Bolivia seem so long ago. I really miss Peru and Bolivia and the people we met. I do hope our friends in Bolivia are able to achieve the future they hope for. I'm going to contact the bear rescue place in Machu Picchu on our return to make a bigger donation for Pepe the spectacled bear to improve his living conditions. Sadly the smell of the affectionate herd of llamas I met in San Pedro de Atacama is finally starting to leave my fleece - it definitely needs a good wash now! The snow covered Andes are a memory I think they are the most impressive mountain range we have ever seen.

This was definitely a trip rather than a holiday with the number of pre 6am rises and lugging around of our luggage on every sort of transport imaginable. I've yet to work out my total photo count as my laptop is now full (using the back up drive).

I'm so sorry. I haven't been replying to everyone's comments. I'm putting aside a day before I start working to catch up with everyone I can.

'Adios' South America...
Cool photo. Sounds like an amazing time.

Quite a beautiful capture of this plane's wing. You certainly had adventures in South America, but I think you will be glad to be home. Thank-you so much for the postcards!
