19th May 2021

1 year, 54 days since the start of the 1st lock down in March 2020

And we’re off!!

I’ve been waiting for 10 months since out last visit to see Mum and Ian in July 2020. I wanted to visit for her birthday last November but 3 days before we went into the second lock down. I was all set to meet with my sister (now not seen for over a year) at Christmas but that opportunity was taken away just 3 days before we had planned to travel.

We had planned our trip to include a stop at our favourite Hillbrush brush factory and cafe which also reopened today and I very quickly booked a slot for brunch. It was a lovely drive and the trees and countryside looked so bright green. I actually did buy a brush this time from Hillbrush along with a nailbrush and specialist little brush to clean nails and my finds after mud larking. Although the food took a little longer to arrive after ordering (understandable as there has to be less kitchen staff due to maintaining social distancing) it was as good as ever. I always go for the Eggs Benedict which I did again this time and it was lovely - Colin went for the full English.

Then it was onwards and I kept driving as I felt fine. The journey was good, weather held and we found a parking space in Mennaye road.

Finally I got to give Mum the big hug I had intended to for her birthday in November and at Christmas! It is brilliant to be here at long last.
