Goddards - the View from the Gardens

This part of the gardens at Goddards, York, wasn't open to visitors on our last visit. It is being developed as a new orchard. At the moment there are a lot of crocuses in flower, with lots of daffodils, most of which are not yet open. Beyond the hedge is a vegetable garden, and beyond that the Knavesmire, York's racecourse. The white rail shows the course which runns immediately outside the Goddards garden.

In the distance are the racecourse grandstands. Immediately to the left of the tallest grandstand, in the upper centre of this shot, is a clocktower, which is on the site of what was Terry's chocolate factory.

The more attractive buildings on the factory site have been converted to apartments and facilities for residents, while other demolished buildings have been replaced with new homes. All Terrys confectionary production has now been moved abroad.

Thank you all for your lovely comments, they are very much appreciated.

There was a media report yesterday about the amount of land that was once orchard where the trees have been removed, so good to see this orchard being recovered.

@will_wooderson

Terrys has been gradually moving abroad for many years, once ownership fell into overseas ownership. The York factory finally closed around 2004, so quite a while before Brexit. Conversion of the factory to become primarily residential accommodation began in 2011 and is still ongoing.
