This lovely countryside running alongside a sea inlet just calls for me to put my walking boots on and go and explore this area. Some of it would be hard walking, even in the benevolent weather in the photo, but it would be a worthwhile experience and it would certainly get me away from the hustle and bustle of life.
Forty years ago it would have been a very different story. This is San Carlos in the Falkland Islands, where major British landings took place after the islands were invaded by the military of the Argentine. This area was nicknamed ‘bomb alley’ and was a site of serious fighting.
Rather more recently, but still several years ago, my son in law Nigel took this shot during a visit to San Carlos, when it had settled back into it’s rural tranquillity, and the weather was at it’s best.

I have to admit that the various photos of the Falkland Islands that I have seen make it seem an attractive place to visit and explore. If only it wasn't so far away and so hard to get to!
It does look a very attractive place - but I'm glad I wasn't there 40 years ago. Perhaps I should consider the Hebrides, they are rather more accessible than the Falklands!
