Dragonfly Dance by gardenfolk

Dragonfly Dance

Dragonflies dance
Through the grass
Delicate flowers in flight
Shimmer and gleam
Fragile dew's lace wings
Reflecting beams of light. ...Carnie Goller

I was out in the backyard when I spotted this dragonfly sitting in the grass. Here was my opportunity to try to photograph it before it flew off. Katniss was also in the yard and decided to come over for a visit when I was crouching down to photograph it. Instead of spotting the tasty treat and either playing with it or scaring it off, she sat down in between me and said subject. Then she adjusted herself and at this point I could no longer see the dragonfly. After that, Katniss laid down in the grass on top of the poor thing. The only way to get Katniss to move was for me to walk away. I found something to lift the dragonfly up with and set it on the patio table. Instead of it being a goner, it flew away by the time I got Katniss in the house. I did get a couple of quick photos before my little helper arrived.
So beautiful

I love dragonflies and am looking forward to trying for some shots of them this summer. They are very difficult to capture especially in flight and I am sure Katniss didn't help you!! So funny!!Fav!

"Katniss"was certainly living up to her name and doing every cat like trick in her book! Your caption made me laugh as I was reading it... She loves you and wanted you to put the camera away!

@wendyfrost Thank you Wendy...I thought for sure the dragonfly had been either smothered or flattened. That was one lucky dragonfly!

@photobird I have always been a gatherer of quotes and have collected quite a few that I have in notebooks. However in some cases, I hunt on the internet for poems and quotes. It is time consuming but I enjoy it. Thank you for asking and appreciating them.

@pamknowler @Weezilou When I saw the dragonfly in the grass I was surprised from the start. I usually see them in flight and they don't stop for long. I thought this one was injured or something and of course Katniss sitting on it wasn't going to help matters. What really surprised me even more, was that Katniss didn't even see it. She must have eyes only for ME! :) It was a first posting for me of an insect from my iPhone.
