Another view of the new promenade at Blackpool. They have spent a fortune over the last 3 or 4 years on creating this wonderful new space which is a few miles long & is a great asset to the whole town.
We were very impressed with it all today & I just hope it all brings new life to this holiday town.
Good Luck to the football club too!!
The sharp eyed of you will have noticed Harry up to the rails in the centre of the photo... as near as he would let me get !!!
This is fab Pat!! So nice to see the sea and to see Blackpool looking so magnificent. Last time I was there it was blowing a gale, freezing cold and all looking very run down. I'm thinking that a visit to the Blackpool relatives is a must for this summer.
@judithg I just hope they carry on knocking down the old & rebuilding. I went to a Tourist Board meeting a few years ago & an Irish guy was in charge of redevelopment & he was inspiring to listen to. He has redeveloped Berlin so was very experienced. We did think when they lost the Casino bid that all was lost but so glad that wasn't to be in the end !!
@happypat I'm sure there's a market for good clean fun (possibly nicer without the casino in the end). They have great assets with the tower and funfare and the beach (which I assume they've learned to keep clean) and it faces west which is great. They may not get the same week-long holidayers but for weekends and day trips I'm sure lots of people will want to visit. You just can't sit back and assume that the world owes you something. And of course when you're supplying the country with gas as well you'll be responsible for the economic recovery!
That would be 'funfair' - the striking thing about your photos is how spotless it all is - they aren't doing much marketing down her though - they should sell themselves - there are plenty of people who love Great Yarmouth and it doesn't come close to Blackpool!
@judithg The gas is another story !!! I am enjoying a boom in the B&B because of the gas workers !!! Full nearly all the time & breakfast early & out of the house all day !!! Never been to Great Yarmouth so can't comment but the beach is long & lovely here & hope fully one day will get a blue flag !!!
I've never been to Blackpool even when I lived in Liverpool for many years but this shot makes it look like its worth a visit, the tourist board should pay you commission judging by the other comments!
That is a lovely alternative shot of Blackpool - I am glad the tower is NOT there! It looks so cool and clean, giving th place quite a different aspect. A smashing photo - well done!
What a beautiful place and area this is . . love the promenade. Such beautiful blue sky and was nice to see the wee bit of Harry! I think that this should attract many people and the change is a positive one. Thanks for the update and the photos, Pat.
Blackpool...is...and so much..in sepia..albums..across the land...nice to see you safe and sound back from the land of sheep...!!..i do hope you delighted in the Chard...whilst chasing sheep....such thirsty work..perhaps..
Pat, Blackpool never looked as good as this when I was a little lad.....in fact last time I visited ...Dec 2005.... it was still very much run down and quite depressing.
The curved lighting is very art nouveau (can you have art nouveau ???) , anyway Blackpool holds fond memories from my childhood and early to mid teens ..... my grandparents lived on the south shore (well not actually on the beach...lol) ...I always like your Blackpool pics :)
