My computer is sulking as our electricity has been off again tonight, it hates been incorrectly shut down.
It has taken me an age to upload this picture so I will go on the lap top for my commenting later.
Lamb & mint sauce courtesy of the oil fired Aga so we were quite happy in the dark. Harry went round to our new little neighbour Dorothy who only had a torch & some candles.
I was quite clever a couple of years ago & bought three large camping lamps which have been invaluable with the B&b's.
Three good things:
1. Kindles with their own lights.
2. Lovely warm feel good Christmas adverts started on the TV last night....the John Lewis one with the snowmen was filmed completely in NZ.
3. Our brave soldiers past & present on this special day.
Looks lovely, reminds me of the 5 day week or whatever we had with Heath and we were all so annoyed when the lights came back on during our romantic dinner parties!!.............grumble 1 my kindle doesn't have light ..apart form that supremely happy lovely weather and out for lunch!!
I used to love when the power went off - lovely light like yours here - and quiet! Your aga will be cooking and keeping you warm but we didn't so used the barbecue for cooking!
looks all cosy there Pat - and at least the Aga allows you to carry on cooking! I saw the John Lewis advert just a few minutes ago - Christmas is coming - it is another corker from them!!
Lovely warm and cosy feel Pat, love candles and Ahas are such a blessing. It's been thundering non stop all day here and rained like anything...forecast says more..hope we don't get washed into the sea!
I do love those John Lewis ads!! I loved the 'Always a woman' one and they never let you down - whoever they've got working on them is genius! Your room looks lovely in the dark and I'm glad you're looking after little Dorothy. Rachel got caught in the huge Birmingham blackout last week - of course they didn't have anything like a candle or a torch or even a bike light in their flat and decided that their crisis control was to eat all of the ice cream in the freezer. It seems to be an advantage of the city that we don't get many powercuts - when we lived just outside it was every Saturday night. More fireworks again though....
Such a cozy shot. Good thing you still have your marvelous stove for heating and cooking. And so sweet of Harry to check on your little neighbor. I like a forced opportunity to unplug and just enjoy the simple things during a power outage.
@fannyb The new paperwhite has it's own back lit screen but my light is on the cover itself Fanny. It was very peaceful sitting by the fire I must admit!
@peggysirk Dorothy is 82 so we all feel responsible for her a little, Marilyn had been in to see her too but Harry left a light for her. i was quite happy with no electric but the results of Strictly Come Dancing were on so glad to watch that.
Looks very snug and inviting! We weren't too worried about losing power with Hurricane Sandy until we realized our new boiler has electronic ignition, so no heat if the power goes out. The old boiler we just opened all the valves and it fired up and chugged away. Fortunately the storms missed us.
@bpaquette This is the thing about these new fancy models even the new Agas need electronic start so our old drip feed oil keeps going whatever ....something to be said for old!
Still looks ever so inviting. Lovely light. We lose power frequently here during winter storms and unless it's a day I have to get ready for work I really enjoy it...unless it goes on for days and we have to worry about food spoiling
A lovely looking room Pat. Hope the power was back quickly! This will make you smile. I have just realise dthat one of my favourite authors of all time has released a book that is available on Kindle only!!! Aaaargh!!!
