This guy was selling wooden roses in the centre of Lancaster yesterday, he was doing a roaring trade although I thought they were hideous & wouldn't give them house room!
I am on research looking for wallpaper & emulsion colours before the decorator comes to check what we want doing next week.
All my bedroom walls are just emulsioned at the moment but I quite fancy having some wallpaper this time. The first time I have ever had any one professional come in so the world is my oyster!!!
Three good things:
1. Clean car & clean widows.
2. I have met the new puppy from next door , a miniature schnauzer called Hecter, he is very sweet & quiet!
3. A lovely sunny day, makes me think Spring is on it's way!
You have been getting some great street scenes lately, Pat. Is the smiling woman on the right with you? Wooden roses . . . hmmm.. . . can't say I've seen one.
@barbsmith You haven't missed anything Barbra ...a very garish colour too!!!! No I don't know the young lady but she looks nice doesn't she? I never notice the people that have a reaction to me taking photos until after I upload,, I would have smiled at her if i had seen her but you sort of slink away after you have taken the picture don't you?
Lovely one, I really enjoy street scenes as there is so much to examine!!! Must be our naturally nosey character!! Sanderson's have some delicious wallpapers! what a treat having a decorator, I always do ours!!
@fannyb Haven't checked Sanderson yet but plan to go & look soon. I have always done ours too Fanny & strangely am rather nervous about some one coming in!!!
@happypat I can understand that although I would love someone to do our foul peeling bathroom!! You can see a lot of wall paper online which sometimes helps........our local shop has about 60 books and I dread going in...just too many, I go for traditional floral, suits the house!! although we only have 2 bedrooms with wallpaper!!
Great shot! Must say wooden roses wouldn't do much for me either...........
but I love the LUSH shop! Once you get over the scent in the street they have some great products. Laura worked there as a student and still knows which are the very best products and what goes into them!!!
What fun to have to choose for the redecorating! We've done our own mostly too but it's good to keep a watchful eye when you have someone coming in to do it,,,,,,,,,,,and then enjoy just watching!
I actually bought some of these for my Mum when she was getting on a bit as I thought they would last a long time and she wouldn't have to worry about watering them! Would you believe that I also have the decorator coming in next week - and also for the first time ever? Usually I do all the decorating - I really quite like it! I have decided to go with just a lining paper but still have to choose a colour - he said next week would do. However, I'm still thinking that a textured paper would be nice.
@fannyb Have looked online now & ordered a sample, some lovely papers I agree, always look good & was surprised at the reasonable price, only a fraction more than Laura Ashley! Thank Fanny for your help!!!
@busylady Decisions, decisions Judith I thought about textured paper too but some of my walls do incline towards a bit of damp so much easier to paint over dodgy bits. My room is going to be a sort of pale blue & cream, south facing so a warm looking room.
@maggiemae Just counted maggiemae & we have 13 windows to clean but I didn't clean them!!!!!!! Thank goodness we have a man every two weeks & my word with all the wind, snow & rain they were bad!
@fannyb Have picked a sort of trellis pattern Honfleur ivory/ blue. Quite liked it &will see what sample is like. Can order online too so easy peasy!!!
@maggiemae He he never noticed you had put ''widows'' !!!! We do have lots of windows & really i could have added another 10 as our house is split in two & we have the other side let out but still taxed as one house. Our eldest son lived in it until he went to NZ so it's a nice bit of income for us now. Big farmhouse !
Not even 30 for £3?!! We get a pro in for the hard bits like the landing. Sadly he's very unreliable - you have to wait two years then he suddenly appears!!
@happypat I do very little street shots at the moment., since I live in a small place and the people might be wondering why I take pictures of them, and to e quite hones there's not really a street life around here, I like talking them when travelling. This month I take part in the Feature-4-Feb challenge and try to take shots that fit to the word of the day. So I really enjoy looking at yours :)
@happypat and in this case it also means he doesn't charge a lot!! He's good as well but if he doesn't come soon I'm going to have to start stropping! And the outside needs sorting as it seems to have got damp under somewhere.
@khirsch I have to wait till I go into a proper town where no one knows me & it is a bit nerve racking taking street photos, I have got into trouble a few times myself!!! I have noticed there is a challenge every month but I just tend to take photos as they crop up in the day..a sort of diary. Thanks for your comments .!
The woman with the hearts in her knees looks happy to be parting with her money. I had to googole emulsions as I have never heard this term for paint - and all the sites were from the UK where I guess everyone knows what they are....still leaving me clueless. I am thinking it is water-based paint that we call "latex"? I have sworn off wallpaper since I detest stripping it...except have to have it in my living room to cover the imperfections...got a dark red texture that looks like rag painting...am still happy with it after 7 years. Happy shopping!
Haha, no accounting for taste. Support my local town, Harlequin Wallpaper is made at the old Ladybird Book factory in Loughborough. Good luck choosing.
@bpaquette Yes Barbara you are right a water based wall paint used instead of wall paper. very handy as you can usually wash marks off or just paint over.
