It occurred to me when I saw this photo from our walk yesterday that our branch of the family name will die out in the UK.
Unless any of the boys decide to come home all the future Knowles will be Kiwis.
Harry had one brother who died childless & one sister who has children but of course with another surname.
I am out again tonight, have been catching up this afternoon with commenting but might miss some this evening.
Three good things:
1. Another quiet, dry, pleasant but cold February day.
2. My uncle is 91 today & when I spoke to him this morning feeling very well.
3.I have had a clear out of my wardrobe this afternoon & chucked stuff out.
@jantan@busylady I had so much stuff in my cupboards that I couldn't pick & ended up wearing the same old things..I am completely off shopping at the moment...... & anyone who knows me can vouch how much I love clothes....... so have organised myself much more efficiently now
Always cleansing to have a clear out. My house is due a massive one I think! This is a lovely happy shot. Our family name has died out too. The perils of having girls who marry and change names!
Lovely family photo, Pat! I'm certain the Knowles name will be proudly carried on by those who have 'defected'. :) Maybe at least one grandson will decide at some point to make the UK home...you never know. Good for you for your organizational project today! I love having a clean, well organized closet...the problem I have is keeping it that way. :)
You are all rugged up there for that lovely winter walk - I love them. The bridge looks interesting too - great for this line up photo and there are always two sides to every family!
What a lovely family shot Pat, everyone looks warm and well wrapped up, pretty light, well I suppose the Kiwis will have to repopulate the Olde Country one day!
Oh well done with the chucking! It was on the wireless the other night that Greenwood is on the endangered surname list. We are not helping because my dad was an only child and only had daughters. So both our kids are Crocketts which we know is a rare name (although there were about 6 on Boots Opticians computer - I nearly asked if I could read the list!) but now I'm thinking we should have gone double barrelled! Interestingly ann almost extinct name was Nithercott and I know a family of Nethercotts who emigrated to NZ and then thine some moved back to the UK - so you never know some Knowleses might make eir way back! Lovely team photo.
So tell us who all is in the picture (besides you and Harry) - and who took the picture? It is a lovely shot. I love chucking things out when I am in the mood, my problem is I get carried away and get rid of things I search in vain for later!
@bpaquette From left to right Barbara..Garth our son in law, me, Harry, Cathy our daughter, Lydia & then Jack, grandchildren. Garth put the camera on timer & then ran!
What a lovely photo of you all! There is something about 'timer on' photos and families - everyone seems to relax!!
As long as all the Knowles family are happy and healthy.......the world is a small place and family histories are so much more accessible.
Last time I visited Mum and Dad we were having such a lovely time as they told old stories about their families that I clicked the record button of my phone and saved it all! They didn't notice but will be nice to share with the next generations at some point!
You do seem a good bunch. Pity you're soon to die out. Still, look on the brightside, there's always photos to remember you all by. Remembering when it was 'Knowle place like home' and all that.
@sarah19 Such a great idea Sallie as that will be so treasured one day. I have a recording that my aunt did for radio about her life as a Queen Alexanders Royal nursing sister & it is wonderful to hear her voice after her death. Wish I had one of my mum & specially telling stories of the past..too late when they are no longer there!
great family lineup! I did some clearing of a few clothes drawers at the beginning of the week. I cleared out my underwear drawers to find I owned 55 pairs of black socks!! Now I know I travel a lot, but I really don't need that many between washes...some of them are years old. I threw 30 pairs away! time I started looking in some other drawers, frightened what I might find!!
Great family shot. Quick family story, my father John Verdi, was one of eleven children, six boys and five girls. All of my father's brothers had daughters, while his sisters had both boys and girls. I was told it was my job to carry on the family name. I have a son and a daughter, and thereby was successful in my charge, as is my son who has a daughter and a son. So it is all resting on my grandson's shoulders, so to speak ;-)

Isn't chucking stuff out good for the spirits?
