Dearly departed. by happypat

Dearly departed.

Today we have been to the first of two funerals we have this week.
In keeping with our more sombre mood I have posted this recent photo I took on our farm treasure tramp a few days ago.

This is Ribchester Parish church sleeping in the evening sun.

Ribchester is a small village on the banks of the River Ribble in the Ribble Valley.

There is evidence of Bronze Age beginnings & it is the site of some significance being the site of a Roman Cavalry Fort. There are many excavations round this church & museum showing granaries & old buildings.

None of this bothers the inhabitnts of the church yard of course & we enjoyed walking around looking for clues.

I am overwhelmed at your generosity of faves for my last two flower photos....some of you may know I only do flowers in desperation far preferring a good street scene but to get two PP at the same time is amazing & thank you all so much!

Three good things:
1. Ann, the lady who has taken over my job in the Horticulture marquee seems to be managing OK & has all the tressel tables up!
2. Harry has been discharged from the Physio...up to him now doing his exercises.
3. The smell of frying onions!
yes nice three Good things Pat shame about the two funerals .

Interesting to see most of the stones are the same height! Some of our old ones are so high. It is a lovely peaceful scene for these sleeping inhabitants! Did you feel surrounded by spirits? I did a few days ago wandering in a Memorial Garden!

A sad day but a picture of peace.

Very good shot, great pov. I like your information about this parish. And to be honest i like No. 3

@maggiemae Most of the modern grave stones seem to much the same height but some of the older ones are enormous with crosses & statues on the top & of cause some are old tombs....my godmother was buried in the family tomb , it was rather weird.
No i never feel like that in a graveyard not sure whether i would like to walk through in the dark though!!

Great perspective. so sorry for your loss of those who were close to you

So sorry about the loss. This is certainly very different from the cemetries here, especially chinese cemetries. Very disorganized and every year it's getting harder for us to climb the hill.

I like the soft look across the field of stone
