We found poor old Henry dead this morning, not a surprise as you may know that we had recently had the vet out to look at him.
We knew then he was very frail & to be honest the last few days he wasn't good; still eating his food but not chewing his cud as sheep do and once they stop doing that there is no way they can survive long.
We are very sad but know that Henry had a great life over the last twelve years and was very mollycoddled.
He has been a pleasure to know all these years & we will miss him greatly.
We have buried him in the field next to Jenny.
Three good things:
1. Pets.
2. The Copper Beech trees are out.
3. Main crop potatoes in.
Ooh ! Pat I am so sorry to hear your sad news -- my first reaction when I saw his photo was "oh Henry " but then with sadness I read of his death I am sure you will be very saddened --but as you say he has had the life of a king and been mollycoddled like any well loved per -- A lovely photo of him Pat !
Oh no, Pat! I am so very, very sorry to read this. I know you must be heartbroken over the death of your dear Henry. I will certainly miss Henry posts/photos. I had a huge crush on your boy...he was such a charming character. We can all take comfort in knowing that he had a wonderful life with you and Harry. I must fav this gorgeous portrait. Sending sympathetic thoughts and hugs your way...
Oh, I'm sorry to hear about Henry. I don't feel too sorry though as you say, as he lived a very long life and a good one in your field. I'm sure you'll miss him, but you can also celebrate his passing in knowing he had a full lifespan which has to be quite unusual. He looks content in this shot, and that is how I will remember him.
Oh Sorry to hear! He has featured quite a lot over the years in your photos and it's very sad when pets reach the end of their lives! He was a fine character and nice to have the photos!
Oooh bless him!! The most famous sheep in Lancashire. I know he managed about 11 and a half years longer than most sheep but the end is still sad. So lovely for him to die in his own space and I'm sure he knew how well looked after he was. A grand old boy and a fav.
@debbie3108 he came as a lamb Debbie...was born in a field at the slaughter house when my DIL was a working there as a beef buyer.....she smuggled him out & he has been here ever since.
@judithg thank you Judith....I know you will miss Henry too.....glad he died naturally & not frightened. Harry found him this morning half in & half out of his house. He couldn't eat his proven last night until he got his breath back...not a good sign. A long & happy life for the old fellow.
@dide I did have a go this afternoon & that was my intention Diane but I am so badly organised with photo albums all muddled up I couldn't find the photos I wanted. Most of them have been on 365 over the last three years anyway.
So sorry that your ole boy has gone. Lovely shot of him here, you gave him a good life. Sad for you as you will certainly miss him as we do when our animals move on.
A beautiful portrait of Henry. So sad to lose a pet and you will miss him but as you say, he had a good life and perhaps we cannot ask for more for them. It seems he had a good death too.
Thank you all Henry would be very touched at all your comments.......he will be in pastures new but I know one thing he won't be sitting with the sheep as he always thought he was a cow! My early followers will know the whole story!
Poor Henry, but sounds like he had a great life with you, and the other animals.. he will be missed... RIP Henry.. this is a lovely photo of him.. deserves a frame I think..
His heart just gave out! Just like my old retriever! Grief still bubbles out of me when I think of him so I'm sure you are in the same category! He has been part of your life and lately ours, too! RIP, Henry!
Sorry to hear about your loss. Henry had a wonderful life with you and Harry and was allowed to end this life naturally. This is much more than most sheep and all other farm animals get. A great shot of him
So sorry to read this Pat. I have informed my family who are also sad - we all feel like we knew Henry. I bet no sheep ever had a better life. A fav, not for your sad news, but for your lovely portrait.
Aww always sad to lose a pet, as farmers we get upset if we lose any of our sheep herd especially some of the very tame ones. 12 years is a good life though.
@claireuk@cazla@ubobohobo@willowdragon yes I think twelve years is pretty good. Thank you all so much for your sympathies....everyone has been brilliant!
Thank you for sharing Henry with us. I am going to have to back through you album and fill in some blanks on Henry and his wonderful life with you and Harry . 😍
@andreajoy thanks Andrea......if I had been clever enough I would have put links to all his entries. I can do copy & paste but for some reason it never works on 365 .....keep forgetting to ask Jack just to check if I am doing it right?
Oh I'm so very sad to hear this, must be a big loss for you all. I was so looking forward to meeting him one day, good on you for giving him such a lovely life. Can you dig out your old pics and make a montage for us Henry fans?
So sorry to hear about Henry. Sheep do have wonderful personalities and make great pets. Henry seemed to be a real character.
This is a lovely shot of him.
Thank you all Henry would be very touched at all your comments.......he will be in pastures new but I know one thing he won't be sitting with the sheep as he always thought he was a cow! My early followers will know the whole story!
Indeed frolicking in the clouds with Jenny...I like that!
Thank you all, we are quite resined to his death now as we know he had a brilliant life.
He has had a lovely 12 years with you though ....... this is a lovely photo of him xx
This is a lovely shot of him.
