I went to pick up Lydia at Preston railway station....always a good source of photo ops. Draughty places normally but in this heat it was a cool place to be.
Three good things:
1. Standing in our local bakers waiting to be served this morning I noticed in the long line of mostly women the staff knew everyone's first name!
2. An afternoon with my closest bunch of friends celebrating my birthday early.
3. Rory McILroy is way out in front at the Open!
An interesting picture, nice to be able to find a cool pic in a cool place,You seem to have got over your opp . very quickly well done Pat and a happy birthday
Great shot Pat... love the way the pigeon is strutting his stuff in the centre... bird on a mission... And yes it is great when shop keepers know who you are..
@julzmaioro thanks Julz...bit disappointed with this one now I have it uploaded.....seems not to be as clear as I thought it was.......I never noticed the pigeon!
The railway station is obviously a whole lot of platforms with stairs etc over the top - not seen here in NZ that I am aware of but experienced in other countries like Japan - which platform?? Which way does the train com in? etc etc. Imagine - there all the signs are in Japanese! Are you going somewhere special for your birthday?
@maggiemae yes we are having two nights in Hawkshead in the Lake District maggiemae. Our daughter & son in law are up at the cottage for a week so they have asked us to go up there....looking forward to it.
@happypat I have been looking at Hawkshead and believe that this is where my Mum explored in 1929. She writes:
"Windermere and Ambleside with splendid views of the lake through the trees. Rydal and Grasmere where we visited Wordsworth’s cottage and grave. It was lovely, especially as he is a favourite of mine. Grasmere is one of the prettiest of villages; the lady who showed us round mostly sewed at drawn thread work and talked all the time. Her grandmother had the job first and had showed Queen Mary round. She has shown, Lloyd George, Sir James Barrie, and other prominent people. The rooms are all small and low roofed. We saw the kitchen and larder, living room various bedrooms, one belonging to him showing his furniture; ever so many copies of his works including some first editions. He died in 1850."
@maggiemae same area Maggiemae....as you can see Hawkshead is around the shores of Lake Windermere but on the western side......the main route through that part of the lakes is along the eastern side which sounds like the route your mum took. She is right in all her descriptions ...a very beautiful part of the area. It will be very busy at this time of the year but Hawkshead is a very pretty village & the beer festival is on that weekend I believe....not that is why we are going of course! Will take lots of photos!
