Market day by happypat

Market day

A cold & wet day meant that Garstang market was very quiet today....I think the stall holders will be going home early!
Booths in comparison was really busy, warm & bustling with shoppers sheltering from the quick heavy showers.

This is part of Garstang High Street which on market day has stalls the full length all along one side. A one way street, sometimes the bus struggles to get through & all the traffic is held up, usually by a car with a disabled sticker
I called in at our bank which unfortunately is closing next month.

Three good things:
1. A made use of my Booths card & had a free coffee to warm me up.
2. A nice chat to an elderly lady also having a lone cup of tea.
3. A warm kitchen.
Love your descriptions of your day. Cold and wet in Essex too although the forcast was sun so my washing is now soaking wet.

Looks a lovely town to go to the markets (on a fine day). A pity your bank is closing.

It really did lash it down today. I do like Garstang. You may have been the only company for the old lady.

Yikes even wetter that in Yorkshire. Hope the coffee was OK!

@fueast it was surprisingly good Alison...mind you any hot drink would have felt good today!

@judithg that's what I felt Judith....she looked a little lonely so was glad to talk to her.

Lovely shot of this street, I can see why buses have trouble on it.. poor Market pep's having to stay out in the wet and cold..

@julzmaioro well Julz they can't grumble this year, the first proper rain for months!

What a lovely street shot. I love looking at the plant stalls - hoping for some hyacinths soon

Nothing more dampening to the spirit than a wet cold market day. You have captured the lack of enthusiasm so well here.

It must be very depressing for the marker traders, but at least they don't have to worry about watering the plants. I got wet today; it was sunny when I got o a bus to Ipswich but pouring with rain when I got there, so went to have some lunch somewhere warm and dry, watching as the weather cleared - and then it started again as soon as I got outside. Don't we just love our weather!

I love seeing streets like this in England - it looks so social with the doors opening on to the road! Talking about disabled drivers - here the ladies with small children have decided they are disabled and park in all the disabled parking spaces! No stickers but they are aggressive!
October 9th, 2014
@maggiemae sounds familiar but we have special parking bays for cars with small children...they are extra wide for getting kids out of the rear doors.

@lucypics I love a hyacinth at Christmas!
October 9th, 2014
@wordpixman I got soaked today Arthur.....had to shelter in a shop selling nice clothes & just had to buy a dress!!
@judithg

@happypat ... Life's hard isn't it Pat? Must admit though that I can't remember when I last had to buy a dress!

@wordpixman He he ........well it shouted at me Arthur!!

This for me epitomises England as I know her ;) I've only visited a few times, during one of which I got ticketed for parking without a valid disk - I forget the outcome by now ;)
October 9th, 2014
@kwiksilver three hours free parking at Booths in Garsang Gillian!
October 9th, 2014
@happypat Good to remember for the next visit, whenever that will be :)

A lovely street scene -I love a good street market --I can see the plant stall has done some trade -Had very heavy rain showers today here too and a lack of enthusiasm to do much !!

I wish we'd been there when the market was on. This looks so inviting.
October 9th, 2014
not many folk around Pat ...and it does look wet !

Lovely street scene, so much to see in this shot. I have never been to Garstang, but this reminds me of Newark, another market town.
Such a shame when markets get rained off.

Cool spot, love the clock tower too.
October 10th, 2014
To bad about the rain but a nice shot though
October 10th, 2014
A street with character. Great shot
October 10th, 2014
Looks like you had a bit of rain, but still market day is always fun
October 10th, 2014
I like market towns where they still hold the market down the street rather than in a purpose built place - very nice
October 10th, 2014
Ah pictures of home, Booths, used to love the one in Preston town centre
