Looking over Ribchester by happypat

Looking over Ribchester

I have been for a girls meal out today. We went to a new place called The Spead Eagle at a village called Mellor.
One of the best meals I have eaten helped by two glasses of wine & an Irish coffee.
This is the blurry view from the car park.

Three good things:
1. Six Welsh motorcyclists in for B&B tonight....I love a house full!
2. I rather opened a can of worms on the Bomber Command website by commenting about how cross I am about all the apologies re Bomber Command bombing Dresden .....I feel we have nothing to apologise for......sorry of course for all war actions but no apologies! Our men were doing their duty for their country. Everyone agrees with me!
3. Laughing.
Neat landscape and lovely colours in the sky. Sounds like a good day out - was the view blurry before or after the wine and Irish coffee….

I had the same question as Dianne but you've answered it:-)

Love this gorgeous view...and that little piece of blue sky peeking out of the dark clouds.
Sounds like you had a marvelous day with friends, Pat. So glad you had a chauffeur so that you could imbibe with the girls. A little wine makes the meal. ☺
I have to agree with you on #2. War is hell...but the objective is to win.
Enjoy your house full of guests!

Nice to see the countryside from this restaurant which I looked at on line! Lovely old building. Inside looks better than outside in that weather. There is a Bomber Command website? After 70 years?? Why bring it all up? What's a Welsh motorcyclist??? Never heard of them!

@bpaquette @bkbinthecity @thistle @claireuk @gijsje

Thanks very much .......we had a lovely time but all that food & wine did me no favours at all......felt quite faint in church tonight!

@peggysirk I must say that the wine was lovely but does not really agree with me, two glasses was one too many! Better sticking to the G&T! A rubbish photo Peggy but a fab day!

Amazing colours in the threatening sky above and I love the light in the mid distant land This looks really good on black ! Pat .
Sounds as if you have had a super day and to top it all - FOUR Welsh motorcyclists to stay the night with you !!

Amazing view and those clouds are fantastic!

Beautiful scene and what a dramatic sky. I wasn't sure if you meant your photo was blurry because you had a glass of wine or whether it was just the misty scene. I suppose another alternative could be that your camera is slightly tipsy too.
Have to agree with your comment on #2 as well. I would have said the same.

That is a very dramatic sky! About Dresden: in our Civil War, a general said, "War is hell." He was remarking on people's dismay when they saw it was so. What had they expected?

@cejaanderson Exactly Jane!

Yes - I thought the Archbishop went a bit too far - he seemed to have forgotten the circumstances. How many more would have died while we fannied about waiting for Hitler to capitulate. WHich isn't to say that it wasn't a dreadful thing for Dresden and its people.

What a wonderful view.

My dad hiding in the shelter in the PoW work camp at the cement factory just 6 miles away was certainly glad when on Feb 13th 1945, he saw the flare of the bombs in the sky over Dresden. In the coming days, he and his fellow PoWs had to go in to 'help clear up the mess' and saw some dreadful sights which must have remained with them all of their lives.

@quietpurplehaze Some horrible memories Hazel ...all such a waste too.....war is dreadful & I'm sure the last thing my dad wanted to do was bomb Germany but it had to be done but no apologies for that please! The comments on that website were amazing ......got too complicated for me! Talk of petition to newspapers, bringing in the USA complaint to the BBC ....I got quite worried my comment had stirred up so much conflict! It's still going on but I have had no input today!

@judithg As above Judith.....I seem to court controversial issues ...I do like a good debate but not so good face on!!

Fab view and great light on the fields from that amazing looking sky. Totally agree with comments. I don't understand why our politicians are always apologising, no other country does!

a very dramatic landscape Pat, excellent shot , nice dark skies :)
