I took myself off to the cinema again....I went to see the senior showing of Boyhood. £3.05 to get in plus coffee & biscuits so you can't go wrong!
I found it interminally long & some did leave after a couple of hours but on the whole I did enjoy it & I had nothing else to do today. It was interesting seeing the same cast over the twelve years it took to make the film
The only thing I got very irritated with was the wimpy lad the main character became...I wanted to gee him up, he was so quiet & dreary.
Three good things:
1. A lovely letter & cutting from The Times sent from @quietpurplehaze all about the bombing of Dresdon by Bomber Command...most interesting....thank you so much Hazel.
2. When I came out of the cinema I went on the beach to take the above photo. On the way home I saw a little ticket tucked in my window wipers. I thought it was a parking ticket but when I looked it was an anominous note saying...' Pat are you staying all night?' I have a very good idea who wrote it but was much relieved it wasn't a parking ticket!
3. Pointless!
Pat, I'm so glad you found the cutting interesting as Ray and I did too. What struck me was the discrepancy in the numbers of dead in Dresden: Goebbels gave it as 250,00 immediately after the raid for propaganda purposes; the article I quoted from the Observer supplement in 1970 was something like 135,000; a study in 2004 came to the conclusion of 25,000.....
Nice shot of the Dog walker.. neat shadows.. the sand looks as black as our West Coast sand... pleased you did not get a ticket as well.. I had a post card under my wiper the other day from the Police... warning about hiding bags etc out of site.. nice policemen..
@quietpurplehaze Yes Hazel it was most interesting.... Goebbels added a nought the begger! Interesting too that poor old Arthur Harris got the complete cold shoulder for giving the order when in actual fact he was ordered to do so & no one told him to stop! Thank you for sending this Hazel, I will pass it on to my brother to look at....I will then repost back if that is OK Hazel? I value the chats on here too....you do get close to friends on this site......lovely to have so many 'photo' friends! Thanks to you & Ray. X
The sun is going down across this watery scene and casts great light! The dog walker makes it real and interesting! Its not monochrome is it? Good to hear about that film that got so many awards. I wouldn't like to sit for hours though!
@maggiemae No it's still in what is the colour version maggiemae. The b/w version didn't look good. It was 163 minutes long which is a long time! I had heard so much about it I was curious.
@beryl Thanks zberyl....therecwerecloads of dog walkers around.....it turned out a lovely afternoon.....too nice to be stuck inside the cinema Harry said!!
Fav - love it! Were you being chatted up Pat?! I did warn you Boyhood was slow! But it also had a good feeling to it and it was clever the way they incorporated Harry Potter and Obama which of course couldn't have been predicted at the start and possibly if you just wrote it all in 2014 you may have picked other things. The main boy is a bit 'passive' but I liked the lecture the photography teacher gave him and was glad Adam heard it!
@judithg I liked that lecture too...so relevant to too laid back boys whe needed a kick up the backside! I did. It approve of the gala acting off as soon as he got to college missing all the opening stuff! Bodes Hadley I thought! You are right about looking to the future but it was filmed over twelve years so I suppose they wrote the scripts separately each time to incorporate current news.
this is beautiful Pat, i allways love dramatic light like this, contre jour .
have you thought of cropping the sky out. it works even better without the sky. If you scroll your screen you will see what I mean. FAVED even with the sky
@phil_howcroft Yes you're right Phil thanks. Would have been nervous thinking you have to leave the sky in but it takes all the white glare away. Thank you for the fave too.
Fabulous photo and what amazing light.
We saw that movie a few months ago and like you thought it was rather long but very clever to use the same cast over the years.
laughed at your three good things!
Oh Pat - you are on a roll with your pics! This has an Ansel Adams feel to it - even though it is not a mountain. I've never gone to the movies alone...must try it as there are some I would like to see but Mom might
not. My sister and I have decided we'd really love to do a tour of the British Isles and when I mentioned your BandB near Blackpool she got very excited. Too bad neither of us has the funds right now. Sigh.
Now I want to go and see the film but I know I would have trouble sitting still for that long. I'm a terrible fidget!! I love your beach shot. We are surrounded by beautiful countryside here but I do miss beach walks sometimes and this reminds of them.
@bpaquette Thank you so much Barbara........just happened to be in a good place each day....both rushed photos but they just must have hit the spot!
Go to a movie on your own, surprising number do. I actually prefer it .....no one talks to you when they shouldn't & you go to watch the film not to chat! You can go at the drop of a hat without any organisation ....nothing to dislike!
Gunmetal colour it certainly is. I love the look that this late sun gives on the beach. The great shadows and swirls but shining, sparkling water. The silhouetted person and dog just great to give perspective. One of my favourite views. Fav
@sarah19@swilde@kwind@bkbinthecity@thistle@pinkpaintpot Thank you Sallie, Kim, Brian, Joyce & Linda.....your faves & comments are much appreciated, I know how much time it takes to comment on lots of photos so your regular input is much appreciated.
A beautiful image...wonderful light and silhouettes!! fav....thinking of seeing it..but for sure will see 2nd Best Exotic Marigold Hotel! Starts here tomorrow. Love movies!

Pat, hope your brother will also be interested. I don't need it back, thanks, we both read it all and digested it.
