Market Day by happypat

Market Day

Popped into Garstang today, Thursday is market day & the whole of the length of the High Street is full of market stalls, this is just the tail end of it.
Years ago & before the bypass this was the route of the A6 road north to Scotland.
Thank goodness for the M6!

In days gone by they used to hold the animal fair in the cobbled bit in front of the hotel. They used to fence it off & hold weekly markets there.

Three good things:
1. Our lady duck is back with her two boyfriends! I wonder how many babies she will have this year?
2. Harry has been mowing the grass.
3. My brothers Birthday today.
Lovely market day scene! Always brings a nice lively atmosphere to towns.

The architecture catches my eye! I've seen it duplicated even here in the desert Southwest.

@helly31 Yes a market has that sort of buzz doesn't it Helen, thank you.

Great shot, the best stall on our market is the magazine man, I shall miss him if he stops ... he often says he thinking of giving it up.

MOWING GRASS?!?! I still have two feet of snow in my yard!!! Lucky you! So those triangular advertisements by the roadside, are those posts to keep cars from running into the buildings? It looks cold there, but no snow - heaven! I think I would like to be in the Royal Oak having a drink.

@phil_howcroft No but it was early afternoon & it's the morning when it's busiest. Sometimes you can hard,y move on the narrow pavement which incidentky is on the other side of the stalls so you can't see the few people that are there. The stalls tend to close down early afternoon although zHarry went to pick Lydia up & parked in that bay you can see opposite her shop & a couple were just shutting up shop at 5pm.

@bpaquette He he Barbara....yes he's had the mower out...was itching to get going & it does look much better. Poor you I know you are still snow bound......a cup of coffee in the Royal Oak would be very nice! Yes the post are the whole wY along both sides of the street. They are actually black & rather handsome but on market day some shopkeepers have put these covers over them to advertise stuff...you can just see the top of the solid bollard in the one nearest!
I see as I wake in the night poor old Harrison Ford has had a plane crash....I loved him in Witness....should be ok though thank goodness!! I am down for a cup of tea!!
