We brought these two post boxes back from NZ years ago. One for us & one for our rental property next door.
The best post boxes I have ever seen. Very practical as they are large enough to take parcels & if you have an accommodating postman like ours, if you put a letter to post in the box, stick the red arm up he will pick it up for you.
The daffodils in the old cow drinking trough are lovely this year.
Three good things:
1. A quiet catching up day.
2. Tissues with balsam for a cold.
3. Intriguing presents from Japan.
@louannwarren@thistle They are fantastic, we have brought three over during the last twelve years all still going strong. They are great at the entrance to a house or farm, not sure they would work in a town, could be bulky.
Nice to see a kiwi icon on the other side of the world... hadn't really thought they were unique to NZ.. when I was a kid we use to get our bread and meat delivered by the mailman so I guess that's why they are so big...
Love the Daffs..
ooh nice post boxes...I shall have to go to NZ now! Lovely daffs...Spring is officially here although it is about 2-3 weeks late this year...or so they said on the news just now!
We have a box just like this but not a postman to pick up the letters. Don't write any nowadays though! Wonderful daffs at the entrance to the house. What is in those Japanese parcels!?
@maggiemae magnetic book marks, really pretty with Japanese girls on them. A silk Japanese handkerchief & some amazing chocolate Gouden Waffles all beautifully presented of course.
I love mailboxes like this! When we visited the USA a couple of years ago, I followed a mail delivery van and photographed the driver reaching out of the window to take mail out or put some in and change the flag. She stopped and came back to our car and asked if I was an inspector!! I said I was English and totally fascinated by the system and she thought that was really cool!
@casablanca isn't that a great way to deliver mail? These nz post boxes are positioned the right height to do just that postman drives up, opens window & delivers mail all without getting out of van. All sorts of amazing designs too, they seemed to love personalising them, I have a book on NZ post boxes. Beats shoving the letters through a hand trapping slot in the front door!
We have a fantastic Rural Delivery service and never thought about it being so unique.. if the parcel is too big for the box he brings it to the door.. one day I was out so he left it on the door step... going pop was out of his kennel when I came home.. bubble wrap.. cardboard.. and 3 strings of Christmas light strewn across the lawn... what a mess .. now he puts parcel up high out of the pooches way...
@onewing@jesperani@julzmaioro our postman is absolutely fantastic, he would almost get the washing in if it was raining! Never takes anything back to the depot as he finds a neighbour to look after it. He gets baking done for him & has a selfie post on FB where ho posts pictures of customers & himself. We do get to know who everyone is! Only downsize is the list is very late, almost 5pm today!
Love the Daffs..
Thank you, the daffy seemed to have burst into blossom all at once, I think they seem late this year, not surprising with the weather we've had!
Perhaps better if you have a sheltered spot where passers by are few and far between!!
& shoving through a slot!
Missed posting tonight as I've been out!
