In my lifetime the role of a women has gone through such a tremendous change my own mother would never believe it.
The freedom & choices women have these days is amazing, we can travel all over the world on our own, shop in fabulous shops & spend fortunes on clothes & rise to the top in our working careers & professions.
Not all good of course, much more pressure on a woman these days & I look back at my simpler slower life in my twenties with a bit of nostalgia,
Spending a few days in Edinburgh really opened my eyes of the speed of life today.
Young women in Harvey Nichols thinking nothing of trying on designer clothes at hundreds of pounds & I loved these ladies having their nails done complete with glass of Prosecco!
Three good things:
1. No B&B in tonight so a bit of a breather until weekend.
2. I’m reading a really lovely book by Kit De Waal called The Trick to Time, it’s charming.
3. A throw in anything evening meal tonight, I saw it on the Hairy Bikers show the other night, rather tasty!
Yes , so many changes in even our lifetime -- and most for the better ! A nice cheerful image Pat - the pop of the lady in red makes it Christmassy ( tired , hope this makes sense !!)

Yes I think mostly for the better but women work far harder these days I think, my mum never went out to work but just kept the house going with basic equipment, never knew any different but it was lovely for us kids to come home with a mum to welcome us, no such luck much for the kids of today. I love the freedom & the confidence I have to travel to the other side of the world on my own.
I love this photo. I have only had my nails done once though sometimes paint my own!! As a primary school teacher and a garden lover it's really not ideal to have glamourous nails.
I like the gentler pace of life too Pat. So much to cram in now and you really can't do it all. We need time to stand and stare and .just appreciate what we have around us.
Women of all ages get more chance to pamper themselves these days I am sure. Not so sure I think that a woman's life is harder these days though, my Mum left nursing when my sister and I were small because my Dad died and she bought a grocers shop which was open from 8.30 am to 7.30 pm Monday to Friday and 8.30 am to 6 pm on Saturday. She also opened the shop from 10 am till 1 pm on Sundays too, so her life was pretty hard.
Ho ho ... I'm heading to Edinburgh later today! Rugby match tomorrow (Scotland Argentina) and dinner with friends tonight (in an Argentinean restaurant ... were else?). Lunch with dad in Braemar on the way down. Lovely photo of these women doing all manner of things, but I have to say the last thing I'd want to do is have my nails done whilst out shopping. Don't do nails, although I do treat myself to a pedicure from time to time in summer.
@jamibann I dint do nails much either, hate nail polish but I do have my cuticles paired back when I have my eyebrows done. I have very strong eyebrows that grow long! Sounds a lovely visit to Edinburgh planned, good luck Scotland! We love rugby & go often in NZ. Have fun!
@onewing I definitely think women had a harder life back then if you hadn’t a man to provide for you Babs, great credit to your mum for providing for you all, what a responsibility & she was a very enterprising woman, she would have gone far in today’s world! I would hate to have to rely on a mans wages myself but was mostly normal in my childhood but there again we didn’t expect much out of life, no new clothes, mum made ours & certanly no going out places to eat.....
