Resorted to posting some recent New Zealand photos tonight.
We have been nowhere so nothing to photo today.
William who is a senior fire officer in the NZ voluntary fire service was happy to show us round his fire station the day after his wedding.
He loves being a fireman & is very keen to get on as many calls as he can even wanting to live as near the fire station as he can.
He deals with fires of course but a tremendous number of RTA & medical call outs.
We were amazed at the amount of stuff there was in this fire engine. Everything was so heavy too....
Three good things:
1. Our viewers stayed a long time going back in the house on their own & walking down the field, we shall see if anything comes of it.
2. We had a picnic lunch outside while the agent took them round. Lots of disinfectant spray etc.
3. New potato’s & butter.
Wow - what a tidy mind these firemen must have to fit everything into the right place......and the job must be very challenging at times. Good that William enjoys it so much!
Sounds like the viewers were very interested. Hope you don't have a long wait.
You must be very proud of your grandson!
Keep my fingers crossed for your sale.
My sister's house is also for sale; viewers tomorrow; please keep your fingers crossed for her ;-)
@sarah19 We darent even think about the outcome Sallie....so used to hearing they like it then nothing comes of it even then it’s not sold until they sign on dotted line!
Fingers crossed for you. When we were leaving the UK, we had potential buyers, keen etc. Nonetheless, before contracts were exchanged, 911 put paid to not only our impending transaction...as the planes flew into New York's Twin Towers! We survived!
@happypat Well done to him. I was in the fire service. I served 4 years at a retained station, covering 108 hours a week on call from home. That was 6pm in the evening until 6am the following morning Monday to Friday, then 24 hours Saturday and 24 hours Sunday. no entitlement to holidays either, and this was as well as doing my day job. I went on to being a full/wholetime firefighter for a further 26 years at two of the busiest stations in Greater Manchester. I'm now retired from the fire service, and just don't know where the time went.
The Volunteer Firemen are such a great bunch you would be very proud of him.. They certainly do alot more than just put out fires.. I had to call 111 for Mum a few years back and she was worried the firemen would come (she knew several of them).. I had to reassure her they would be better than having to wait for the ambulance..
@julzmaioro Haha yes I was amazed what William actually went out for....not everyone wants to go out to the gritty stuff...you have to have a strong head sometimes! Your mum would not be looking her best to see folk she knew!!
@gamelee How interesting Lee. You have been a great asset to the fire service & I know William feels very much part of that family. He would love to become a full time fireman in NZ but it’s not so easy there. So many volunteer crews that it’s only really in the cities they have proper paid fire service. He is on with different exams now to see if he can get into that side of it. Up to now he has fitted it round running a farm so has worked long hours specially at calving time & milking but that’s coming to an end this week so is looking to perhaps be able to eventually go full time. Fingers crossed for him...there is quite a divide between volunteer & full time fireman in NZ.
@s4sayer Gracious me that was a time wasn’t it? Worrying too....so much depends on the state of the world around us. We were under offer last summer...parents house sale fell through then we had a Brexit, General election, good to go in the NY then Coronavirus....we didn’t pick a great time to chose to sell but fingers crossed this summer. Glad you eventually managed to move to France & enjoy your life there.
Ooh how exciting - I love places like this! So interesting. Did they offer you the chance to throw a uniform on and slide down the pole? Or maybe they don't have a two storey station. I always think that looks so much fun! So much quicker than taking the stairs!
@casablanca I put the hat on....I didn’t see a pole...don’t think they have them in NZ mostly one storey so no need! It was very interesting....so much resuscitation stuff etc.
Sounds like the viewers were very interested. Hope you don't have a long wait.
Keep my fingers crossed for your sale.

Fingers crossed all goes well with the sale of your house now things are up and running again.
Fingers crossed regarding your house 🤞
