Our usual walk & we were pleased to see that the old broken & slippy stile had been replaced by this smart new gate!
I don’t think they would want any of us slipping off & breaking ours legs just now!
This is a very well used circular routs which can be shorter or longer. Just beyond these fields is the Cartford Inn where you can stop but not sit down for a take away coffee & a bite to eat.
Three good things:
1. Much warmer today. That biting little wind has gone.
2. I’m not that into football but I always like to know the score & whose won so it’s quite interesting watching these smaller clubs play the big boys in the FA Cup. A little club hosting one of the mighty teams at their local pitch is quite interesting.
3. Good job my walking boots are comfortable, it’s the only shoes I have worn for weeks!
Any smart new gate would be totally eclipsed by our thick impassable mud at the moment. We have had mainly sugar-beet this year and it’s harvest has torn up every single footpath in the vicinity. Slipping and falling comes with the territory!
Your walk looks very suitable for Harry’s smart walking boots and guessing you have a matching pair.
@lucycameron Oh dear mud makes walking such hard work. We are lucky here as these fields are quite small & having public footpaths on them they are just pasture. A bit muddy here & there but not so you sink. Harry has a few pairs of walking boots..it’s his thing....these are new! I have one pair only & they are old & let water in at the front!
Looks very smart .. far better than a style..It suprises me that football is still being played when you are unable to sit down for a coffee or meet friends ! ?
@peggysirk Yes we do Peggy, haven’t missed yet but we have to as this bungalow we’re in is quite small at the moment & instead of three flights of stairs we have none! Just a good walk is what I did normally every day before! It’s a very social walk though, we do see lots if other walkers.
Looks like a smart updated solution! My husband has several pairs of boots and I have one but they’ve been giving me pain lately. I’ll have to go back and to remind myself of your latest boot purchase!
@loweygrace Well I don’t wear my new ones for this type of walking but still love them fir smarter occasions Lois. Only downside I find I only wear them when I know in shall be keeping them on a while....all that lacing! You need a good Podiatrist....shall have to send Cathy over! 🤣🤣🤣
@thewatersphotos If it’s a public footpath of which there are many, yes we can. When we were farming at our first farm there was a public footpath across our land but the one we just moved from had no public footpaths. You have to maintain them & keep them in good order, free from briars & other obstacles. They used to come round & check periodically.
It’s a long history of rambling in the Uk starting from the Mass trespass of Kinder Scout in 1932. All on Wikipedia if you’re interested Gary.
Well dressed for walking, not in the mud, though. Christine makes me take off my boots before I go inside and that is acceptable. But then I have spend a lot of time cleaning the soles until they are all clean again.
@sangwann Ha ha yes I’m glad she does! We are a bit lax at the moment as this house is a bit if a mess to say the least....we aren’t too bothered about a few dirty floors just now but we leave our boots just inside the front door.

It was becoming a bit if a hazard but we were surprised to see the new one!
