Are they or aren’t they?

My son in NZ sent me this photo so I’m cheating really but thought it was a good photo to use when I haven’t anything better today.
They are doing a pregnancy test on all these lovely ladies...in calf or not as the case may be!
My son milks the cows in this 40 aside herringbone milking shed & they scanning each cow using Ultrascan which is an easy & accurate method of getting the result.
The vet is using a probe inside the cow which shows up if there is a calf there...

Three good things:
1. Walked to the post office to,post birthday cards to NZ & had a nice chat on the way.
2. We bought a Chinese meal for two in Sainsbury’s yesterday, no idea what it will be like but shall test it out tonight, it’s all in the oven timings I’ve been told!
3. Harry has loaded the trailer up with stuff out of the garage to take to storage at his sisters...on the move again shortly.
A great shot Pat and an insight on today's farming with all its modern gadgets ! On the move again Pat !! but at least you can look foreward to tour new refurbished home !

Thanks for sharing your son's photo. There is so much involved in farming that so many people do not know or understanding! It is a very big business!

@thewatersphotos That’s very true Gary...a whole way of life which we loved but sadly changed so much lately. Big business!

@beryl That’s true Beryl, I just wonder sometimes why we kept all this stuff!

Great photo....the things we don't think about in the production of our dairy/farming products!
Good to have family with storage space close by!
We are storage people for the B Team!!!! Garage full! Attic more and even some in garden shed. 😂😂😂😂

Hard work I'm sure. Is the woman sat down a spectator or the farmer?

An interesting photo, Pat.

What a job! We never really think about the work the farmers do for our milk and meat. A never ending job, but very rewarding I should imagine!

Thought it looked like a kiwi shed.. A job we will be doing soon.. @gamelee she would be the recorder Lee .. has a computer and loggs if she is'empty' or estimated date to calve.. Not just guess work anymore..
Bet you are lookibg forward to the reno getting underway Pat..

@sarah19 I can just imaging Sallie. Thing is they never look at them again in my experience, they think they want this stuff but never pick it up! This time our lot had to decide if their stuff was to go or not...

@julzmaioro thanks Julz...yes a scene you will know well. We only got as far as the arm up...no fancy equipment in our day, not that long ago either! We are ready for next stage....Spring coming so an excellent time to start. Biggest delay will be getting hold of supplies they say...covid has made a mess of production...windows are hard to come by apparently.
Just looking at this photo again we just noticed what looks like feeders at the front of the stalls. I know normally NZ farmers don’t feed a cow cake but some do these days. Must ask Brian, just wondering what you think? Of course UK cows are pretty much always fed a cake while being milked but unusual in NZ.

@gijsje yes we thought so when he sent it!
@lyndamcg Oh there is lots more to it than you would ever know Lynda!
@gamelee thanks for your interest Lee.

An interesting capture

Yes they look like meal feeders..
January 22nd, 2021
@denful @carolmw The goggles the girl has on enables her to see the scan result! Forgot to tell you that bit!
January 22nd, 2021
Boy! I would hate to slip off that catwalk...or is it a cowwalk?
January 22nd, 2021
Nice to see this image and that you get to share in what's happening on the NZ farm. Also good the @julzmaioro was able to help fill in the details. Hopefully there won't be too many holdups for your renovations.
January 22nd, 2021
Really interesting shot Pat. I hope they had a good success rate.
January 22nd, 2021
@bkp Could be easily done Barbara....she standing on a sort of trestle, normally the milkers are just walking in the pit lower down.
January 22nd, 2021
@dide Was glad to see it Dianne...hopefully the builder won’t be too long starting...you know what builders are like?
January 22nd, 2021
@jantan I haven’t heard Jan....usually quite good rate so I would think all would be happy.

Lee
@julzmaioro Thank you for the information.
January 22nd, 2021
Not a job I would fancy.
January 22nd, 2021
Love this peek at farm life. Bless the farmers who keep the world fed.
How long will you be out of your home for all of the renovations, Pat? And where will you be staying for the duration?
January 23rd, 2021
@peggysirk we’ve rented a holiday cottage in the village Peggy about five minutes walk away. We’ve booked it for four months! Hopefully it will be long enough even if at the end we have to just move back in & eat out every night!! 🤣🤣

@onewing Well it’s not everyone’s cup of tea but it wouldn’t do if we were all the same Babs, long hours but it’s good working outdoors & with nature. I wasn’t from a farming family at all but I loved it.

Good luck to the lovely ladies

Beautiful farm scene which we rarely see. Not many are prepared to take animal farming for a living, at least here.

Interesting

Looks like a very clean and efficient dairy operation!
Here is hoping he gets good results.
January 23rd, 2021
What a job. Is that spectator seating to the left?
January 23rd, 2021
Has she got some sort of virtual reality thing on? How interesting and I like her apron - essential at the back end of a cow I suppose?!
January 23rd, 2021
@judithg yes it’s a sort of visual goggles thing she has on....she’s poking about inside but looking up so she can see the image.
January 23rd, 2021
@sangwann it’s a bit dodgy here too Dione....unfortunately the small family farm is getting bigger & bigger...very sad. They all seem to be meeting themselves coming back....getting bigger to compete but & make some money but in the process losing their identity...
January 23rd, 2021
@loweygrace No she will be taking the info Lois although she’s smiling at Brian as she’s doing it so I think they are enjoying it all.
January 23rd, 2021
Wow, that's a fascinating and interesting image. It's a great shot!
January 23rd, 2021
We're 15 minutes walk from a dairy farm, Mitzi and l pass regularly and see the 'gubbins’ inside. Only recently have they been inside after such prolonged good weather.
