Not my photo but Jack’s.
Taken a few nights ago while he was giving blood.
Fleetwood Sea Cadets building was the venue hence the rather lovely background.
Jack isn’t the largest person so taking a pint of blood off him rather knocked him back.
Good job the special chairs were able to tip back when he felt faint. Two bags of crisps, water & a rest before driving home did the trick but not as smooth an operation as he would have liked.
Jack says he thinks they take less blood off people in Japan as they tend to be of slimmer stature.
Three good things:
1. The chairs went to the tip!
2. Connie came to visit.
3. I have started reading @busylady choice of book, Purple Hibiscus. I think I’m going to enjoy it…only on the sample yet.
Well done to Jack - we so need young lads like you !! Such a lovely background . I hope Harry is not sitting on the cold floor tiles tonight !! ha ha !!
@beryl Ha ha. No he’s sitting in his next favourite chair Beryl, the one he sat on lots when we first moved into the bungalow last October….the American rocker. He’s quite happy but he is not happy avpbout having to choose stuff to get rid of! 😨
Well done Jack. I've only given one pint!
The next year there were some ?? about my thyroxine levels so they said no....
But it's a great thing to do.
Saying farewell to a long service piece of furniture is quite an event!! But there's a right time!
Well done, Jack! Such a good thing to do. Here in the US they take a pint of blood when you donate. You have to weigh at least 110 lbs. Also you can be deferred if your blood pressure is too low. Glad Jack bounced back quickly!
@peggysirk interesting about the weight Peggy, I would think Jack will be be over that but not by that much…he soon bounced back but I think he would be surprised how he reacted.
@gijsje@busylady I couldn’t help but laugh at the inscription above….might put a bit of fear in your mind if it was the first time as it was for Jack. On the other hand fill you with pride for doing a good deed!
This took me back to when I used to be a plasmaphoresis donor and gave 2 x 500ml every week and sometimes twice a week! The trick as a plasmaphoresis donor is that you receive a transfusion back of all your red cells and they make Factor V111 and various vaccines from the plasma that they keep.
Well done Jack. I am not able to give blood here in Australia. They said that anyone who lived in the UK during the 1980s may be a 'mad cow' ha ha because of the mad cow disease and for that reason they don't want our blood.
The words up there - 'fear God and Honour the Queen" Fear and honour are not words we would use now! Our words on the Munro insignia is "Dread God" Just as bad!
Excellent photo and a great thing to do. I haven't given blood in years as they don't want it since I have lived in malaria countries. Not sure if that might have changed by now, or if enough years have passed - I must check. I used to love giving blood in France when I was younger as you got a boiled egg, and some saucisson or ham afterwards!
@onewing Wow the Australians have long memories! I remember what a big thing that was in the UK….we were all frightened of dying of mad cow disease…you never hear of it now thank goodness!
He needs to drink a LOT in advance! I’m being pestered but I was having needles in my tight back muscles so have to wait a while. Hopefully can go again in a month or so.
Lots if interesting things to look at while getting his strength back.
