Alfs by happypat

Alfs

Our local village hardware store.
Everyone calls it Alfs even though he died a good number of years ago but it’s still run by his wife & daughter.
You c@n buy anything here although I did ask for som clothes hangers the other day & it was the first I e in over twenty years she didn’t have what I asked for!

Three good things:
1. We have been moving furniture around again today in the bedrooms. So hard to decide what to keep & what fits in when you are downsizing. We need to get ready for the new bed delivery so it’s decision time!
2. I don’t seem to be tired yet even though I was up nearly all night.
3. We love to sit up on our bar stools & look out if the kitchen window watching all the dog walkers go past, they nearly all wave…. the walkers not the dogs!!
Sounds like a delightful shop to visit, like the old fashioned hardware shops. We seek out shops like this too and found one recently where they had just the baking tin I was looking for, which was provng to be hard to find.

@busylady it’s just amazing the stuff you find in these shops. Little narrow rows inside with stuff piled up on shelves tidily! From rat poison to sewing stuff, paint et etc. They’ve only just taken the Christmas crib down from the window!

Not so many of these types of shops here anymore they have been taken over by the '$2' shops so a bit junky..

I love a hardware shop - it’s the smell I think! My dad would go into every hardware shop we passed and I lived to go in with him. Great memories!

A proper hardware store ! but not many around now , just used to love to rummage around this type of shop - You have your Alf's and we have our Charlie's - who started with a similar store in Newtown Powys , and then in Aberystwyth , but by now the store has changed and modernised beyond recognition with two more branches opened in Welshpool and Shrewsbury - I still like to visit the Shrewsbury branch !

Charlie’s …..you have branched out then….clever & I bet Charlie is doing well. Yvonne from Alfs won’t be doing that …she seems very laid back but they do own much property in the village plus a caravan site where she & Sally live. @beryl

This is a super capture. Our hardware shop here is called 'Cassie's' - also the name of the owner. It used to be known as 'Jeannie A'things'. It was at the time owned by Jean Bruce, who sold 'everything'! A fabulous name!

@jamibann Thanks Issi, yes Alf is the name of Yvonne’s late husband, it’s lovely that most private hardware shops seem to be called by the owners name…by the locals anyway! Love your names too, immortalised forever!

We have a shop like that - and also stocks furniture, even beds!!
It has had a few blips recently, flooded at one point and we are not sure what the future holds but making the most of it as often as possible!
