Almost sunset. by happypat

Almost sunset.

The last sun rays catching the fronds of the maize tonight just before sunset

View from the back of our house.

It looks warm but it's an illusion, a very chilly wind tonight in Lancashire.
Lovely warm glow on the tips of the maize.

@fueast I was trying to think of the correct term for those frondy bits but couldn't! Ah ha Harry has just said it ...tassels Alison!

I think you have done well to catch the last of the sun because it sounds like its coming to an end. According to the weather forecast anyway.

Tassels? Great name! Shame it's not as warm as it looks.

Beautiful views. Is this the land you farm? Is Maize the same as wheat? All ours has now been harvested.

Gorgeous light. Yes I think tomorrow is going to give us a real taste of autumn. Never mind, it is due to warm up a bit next week again.

@lucypics We used to farm this land but when our sons went to NZ to farm we retired & sold the land but kept the house...we get all the pleasures of the farming year with out the work Lucy!!
Maize is corn on the cob & is used as cattle feed in the winter. It's chopped up small & carted in like silo...very good for milk production & not harvested until October time depending on weather. Maize has done extremely well this year unlike last year...it loves the sun & you can almost see it growing at times. Most of the grain crops have been harvested round here in the last couple of weeks...just getting the straw in.

What a lovely glow -and it goes on and on....We are enjoying local corn on the cob - sweet corn - not cow corn - we cook it on the grill in the husk after soaking in water ( I remove the tassels - the silk as it catches on fire). Yum.

@bpaquette Yum indeed & you are right this is the cattle variety!

@happypat thanks so much for you interesting info. We have no maize here, would have done better than the rape seed that's for sure,
September 5th, 2013
@lucypics We don't do much rape seed up here ...very few yellow fields in this neck f the woods!

@lucypics Plus forgot to say the Fylde where we live is a dairying area so lots of dairy farms & cheese makers so we need the feed crops,.
