We had a lovely Christmas day, albeit it quiet with just 5 of us around the table. After our essential viewing of 'The Queen' at 3pm, we had a slide show of some of dad's old slides. Here we have no. 1 slide ... dad's old police landrover, in the days that a petrol pump assistant filled the tank for you. Our kids couldn't believe that someone used to do it for you!!!
@julzmaioro We all enjoyed it, and dad narrated almost every 50+ year old slide, accurately. Sadly though, when chatting with him the following day about the slide show, he didn't remember it at all. :-(
Many years ago we did a similar thing with all my old slides from the army (National Service). Took a photo of the audience in various poses of total boredom, heads back, mouths open, head in hands and looking down at the table etc. It was hilarious
Fantastic to see your dads police Landrover there. I didn’t know they used that model in the police department, I suppose it’s the area you live in, best vehicle for the job. Our family are Landrover enthusiasts & both son & grandson had this model in NZ. Both have sold them as it’s not so easy to get parts so the now have Asian built vehicles.
Bet your dad loved those times. Just to sit in the car while someone fills the tank….bliss. One garage still doing that up to the last six months.
@happypat I know nothing about landrovers, but dad did like this one! The police in Braemar have a much fancier vehicle these days, but I'm sure this one did the trick back in the day! My brother also has a landcover, and he replaces bits of it regularly. He says it must be nearly brand new, with all the replacement bits he's added!
@jamibann I can believe that! My grandson asked his dad to buy him one once when they came over here visiting. I can remember going to a garage in Yorkshire in the pouring rain to look one over. He would never do it again as the test that vehicle had to get it into NZ were expensive & thorough. It was on the high seas for at least three months but William loved it. He traded it in after a few years for the same reason his dad did, expensive repair from specialist garages.
Made to last vehicles!

I remember petrol pump attendants and I remember RAC and AA men saluting as you drove past on the dual carriageways
