Pearl Spooked By Branches Falling Under the Weight of the Snow

The trees here aren't used to the weight of the snow. We had 6"...more than all the years we have lived here. Branches keep cracking and falling and Pearl thinks her job is to bark at them and warn us!

We're in the process of having two 60' trees taken down. They're near the house and near the driveway and not completely healthy: they were planted too close together, so the limbs & branches between the trunks have been dying off and the trees have become "lopsided." With shallow root systems, we fear for the ice storm or high winds that will be enough to blow them over … as happened to a neighbor's tree in a recent storm. It blew over onto their other-side neighbor's fence. It's sad to lose mature trees, but everything has its lifespan so we're trying to be proactive!

@rhoing We took down a beautiful cherry tree last Summer that was too close to the house and found a fair amount of rot in it.

Interesting behaviour of your dog! And interesting that you had so much snow. Not much snow here, even in the mountains. That means no water in springtime and summer. Very sad. Fav
