This classic Japanese building houses a family upstairs and a store downstairs. It sells a huge range of food and drink, souvenirs and essentials. Ordinary things like snacks and drinks, and unusual things like the "corn tea" that @vankrey bought. It even has soft serve ice cream that is the local food flavor -- zunda, which is a type of edamame soybeans. (If you are surprised by the flavor, just know that Japan is the country where they serve tomato ice cream sundaes!) I became somewhat addicted to the frozen coffee granita in a tube, and imagined that astronauts in space could enjoy them, too.
I originally cropped out the vending machines flanking this traditional building but left them in because they, too, are ubiquitously a part of Japanese stores. 24-hour availability of its contents, in a sense, the store never closes.
Very interesting picture, nice to learn a bit of the Japanese culture with every picture.
As for the vending machines, it might have been better without the right one because of the dark corner, although I think it's ok. It's symmetrical to the one on the left.
A great shot -- complex in a good way, with interesting lighting. I agree, I think, you could have cropped a bit more of the dark right hand side, and maybe slightly adjust the angle to keep it at a little tilt, but not quite as much as currently. It still works as a fascinating capture, though, without any adjustments.
