August Book Club, Week 2.
Abstracting and Selecting, p. 59.
"The expressive quality of a photograph depends on the photographer's ability to abstract, that is, to separate the parts from the whole." In creating the whole quilt, there were tools and fabric and sewing machine and books and all that around us. I chose these strips because they represented the essential of what makes a quilt a quilt: the act of cutting, sewing, cutting, piecing -- patchworking a variety of fabric to make a pleasing whole.
( I really must reset my camera to the current time zone!)
This is a great shot where you have carefully selected only what is necessary. I like the hand in the shot. All those colours and patterns of the material make for an interesting shot.
Such a lovely capture. I appreciate your visual interpretation of the book club lesson. I love quilts and can relate to the beauty of individual parts and pieces coming together to make a pleasing whole.
