My research, "What Works Well Where?" is on analyzing visual narratives in picture books for children vs digital ebooks and apps.
So, is this a book? Mundane? Abstract?
PS I now see that it looks just like the ipad screen, because the outer rim is so dark. My original attempts were to juxtapose various forms of the same book to compose an image that questioned the notion of what makes a book. But the photograph turned out badly, and I uploaded it simply for a reference:
What a fascinating subject. I can see why kids like ebooks and iPads because of the motion and colours, but there is, in my opinion, nothing that beats a book and an imagination. I forget which comedian it was but he said that in Hollywood, when they do "Ali Baba and the Forty thieves" they have to make do with just a couple of extras so the scriptwriter throws in "You two come with me and the other thirty eight of you, hide behind that rock" whereas with an imagination you can have all forty with beards, gold teeth, cutlasses at the ready, astride camels and desert ponies etc
Well I like it. What a fascinating area of research. I have a kindle and iPad and having tried reading books on them was left with an empty feeling afterwards. The lack of a physical book seemed to make the story fade very quickly and somehow leave no lasting trace. So now it's back to the pleasure of holding a real book.
Lovely composition, really! I like how you did it. As I grew older I loved books without pictures because it allowed my imagination to paint a scene or a person in my mind. Now I don't often like to see movies of good books because it forever alters what I see in my mind when I re-read the book.
