We stopped at various Frank Lloyd Wright homes in Oak Park today, and took a few photos. I was disappointed in that I had forgotten to check my camera's Auto Focus and it must have turned off in the bag. But my wonderful friends who are visiting from Ireland saved the situation with their description of why this photo works. Valerie and Siobhán throw around terms like "interspatiality," "Wright's principles of compression and release" and Bill says add the term "embodiment." I think it boils down to framing the house with the trees surrounding it, entering into that space through the gate and then leading the eye to the side of the house, avoiding the obvious of the loggia . . .
Love all the big words you're throwing around! And it's a lovely capture of a fall day with just a hint of a famous architect's home behind the golden leaves.
It is a fine shot for the reasons you suggest at the end of your narrative. I haven't got a clue what your visitors meant, they ar eobviously very intellectual .(I am a big fan of FLW)
I would so love to see the FLW homes in Oak Park. I read a book recently called "Loving Frank" and would love to see Mamah's home he designed. Love to see your fall color, too!
