I love persimmons. The taste is singular -- and divine. They taste like Japan to me, and until more recently, it was hard to get them in the United States. One time, @vankrey and I were in Japan in the fall and I could see persimmons hanging in trees all around us, but I hadn't had a chance to eat one. I asked at the school, and people said, "Kaki (persimmons) are something you have in your yard or a neighbor's yard and you don't buy them anywhere." I was desperate to eat one. I asked a friend to bring me one and she asked, "kaki, as in oysters? or kaki, as in persimmons?" Getting this fruit was such a production. She did bring me delicious persimmons, a portable cutting board and knife. Yum. And now in the USA, you can get a big package of them at Costco.

Ahhh, I love persimmons. Grew up with a persimmon tree in the local park. Ate them. My dog loved the ones that fell to the ground. Lovely, lovely display. I want that plate!
