Toucan Overhead! by jyokota

Toucan Overhead!

Perhaps my favorite photo I captured in Costa Rica, because this toucan flew over my head and I was able to respond immediately and swing my camera up. I cropped it to be in this upper corner convey the sense of how lucky I felt to catch it before it flew into a tree and out of my visual range.

If only I had that fabulous 300mm lens that Alexis Birkill recommended in the discussion a few weeks ago: http://365project.org/discuss/general/20223/70-300mm-lens-for-canonn

What a capture! And GREAT use of negative space to show off the deep blue sky!

@taffy -- you must have been seeing this in virtual space even before I posted it! Thanks . . . and can you imagine what this would have looked like with a lens that got farther than 100mm?

@abirkill @angiec @frankhymus @steampowered @swilde @padlock I learned so much from our conversation a few weeks ago, but the cost of the really nice lens made it not feasible for this trip. I should have rented one, though!

Congratulations on capturing this toucan, how exciting. I really like your use of negative space and your thinking behind it. Sometimes we can only dream of having the perfect equipment!

Well Done, Missy!!! A number of times Matt said we'd be most fortunate if we caught a bird in flight! I got one "almost-not-blurry"image of 2 Macaws as they flew overhead, but no bragging rights, really! This was a remarkable trip, and I thought of what you'd said about have a photographer as a guide in Iceland...we had two excellent photographers and one outstanding guide on this trip; Ken and I loved it!
You and Taffy would have been up there with the best of the photographers; we had several who were truly excellent! Not being modest, but I was low-man on the totem pole...but I did learn a lot and still got nice pictures. I suggested to Taffy that she give me a call if you want to know more about the layout...she has my # if you wish to call. Would love to share my enthusiasm!

@Weezilou -- sounds like a fabulous trip. I haven't been picking up my camera other than the one photowalk in Bologna and one in Rome with fellow 365ers. And one in Poland with a friend. But I know I will again some day.

@jyokota I absolutely understand. When you care to talk, I'd love to tell you of a gal who was on this trip having come through similar circumstances. She also teaches classes and does photo tours near her home in Casper, WY...Grand Teatons...Yellowstone.... She was one of the best photographers in the group. ...You didn't happen to meet Franchesca in Rome, did you?
