We got nearly 32 cm / 12.4 inches of snow and I have the only garage that opens to the alley. If I don't shovel the alley I can't get out and -- the garbage truck can't pick up the trash. You'd think it wouldn't matter that I get in or out during the pandemic but this is move-home-from-the-office week.
I honestly cannot imagine foot of snow in one dump!! Do the neighbours work together to help each other clear the alley and so you can all get out?? I do hope so.
If we saw that much snow in the UK we would be so shocked & there would be a complete shut down...it looks pretty amazing & you seem quite calm about it!
that's unbelievable! well, i can believe it. the problem is that the alley is so narrow the dump got concentrated in that area. can't you hire someone to clear it for you?
Oh dear. Is there not a service you can call at this point? Or a n'hood helping committee that will shovel for tasty baked bread? I do hope your move goes well. xoxo
Conjures up memories of the worst part of living in Minneapolis. Shudder! My deepest sympathy. I presume, since I’m viewing this a week late, you’re out by now.

Thank you all for your empathy! It WAS a lot of snow to shovel out. I live on a corner lot -- a double lot at that, and I live on the only house on that block. I have to do the public sidewalk on two sides, the sidewalk from the front of the house and down 13 steps, the walk along the side of the house, and from the. backdoor to the garage, and deal with this alley, I used to hire teens in the neighborhood but these days, it seems hard to hire teens. So I thought, I'm home all the time this year, I have a snow blower, I can do this. But then my snow blower wouldn't start! I have very kind neighbors who did the two public sidewalks, and one of the teens I took to Japan a year ago volunteered to come over and help so I was grateful for all the help. My car got stuck in the alley three different times over the two days, and once so badly it took four people to get me out. Now the alley is relatively clear but I have to walk through knee-high snow to get to my trash cans once a week. So. Much. Snow.
@carole_sandford -- I lived in Berlin in 2013, and it was the longest winter they had in a long time. In fact, it snowed right up to Easter, and for the first many months I lived in Berlin I only saw the sidewalk -- I wore my hood up, faced down so I wouldn't fall because the sidewalks were never very clear and always very icy. https://365project.org/jyokota/365/2013-03-12 I went all over the city on the u-bahn and popped up at various stations and walked a short bit so I felt like a mole. And then spring finally came, I bought a bicycle -- and suddenly I was able to ride everywhere and discover the city! I lived next to the Stadtmitte station so very convenient to experience the city. Where did you live? The 80s were when the city was still divided so very different from now.
