Happening on this famous statue one night walk, I was delighted to watch a young child running around and around the base, sucking on a pacifier. (Note father watching in the background.) This was the only landmark in Cuba that I knew before I went; it featured in a picturebook for children about this famous poet and revolutionary activist. (and yes, that's my shadow in the foreground, and the shadow of Eduardo, the hostal's security guard who insisted on walking around with me because it was nighttime and I was going out alone for a photowalk.)
@gaillambert the shadow is what makes this image special to me! @falcon11 You're right -- the statesman and the youngster of our future @helenhall I agree that a photo of a statue could look, well, like a photo of a statue -- but it's the little boy that activates the scene. @dkbarnett thanks for noting the light on the statue @joysabin and @rickster549 -- the security guard was very kind, and he wanted to take me out walking after his days off, but I got very sick the last night and had to miss that second walk with him. @jamibann I love the shadow, too! @gosia I felt like this whole Cuba nighttime series worked better in black and white. For now. More later with color. @pdulis -- hahaha
