Tiger Lily Berries by k9photo

Tiger Lily Berries

This is a closeup of the "berries" that sit on the base of each leaf of the tiger lily plant from my 365 album for today. These "berries" are fascinating to me. I am not sure they are called berries but it was the best word that describes them, at least to me.
They are fascinating.

@marlboromaam Why did she gather them? Are they called berries or something else?

@k9photo I'm not really sure. She gathered them and planted them. They are like bulbs. Takes three years for them to mature, but you can have more plants. Look at this - http://www.eattheweeds.com/tiger-lily/

@marlboromaam Thanks, Mags. So they are called bulbs or bulbis.

@k9photo I guess so. My grandmother just called them baby tiger lilies in the making. =)

Very cool to see! We don't have Tiger Lilies. Do the berries come off?

@thewatersphotos Gary, see the link above that Mags provided. I didn’t touch the bulbs but Mags said her grandmother gathered them for future plants.

That's so interesting I've never noticed those before do all Lillies have such berries?

@catcarter19 From what I found out it is a characteristic of tiger lilies , not all lilies.
