LEGION is making sure he samples as many trees a possible. This is a forest red gum, 4 years old. It's got plenty of nice leaf, but you can see the tree is slightly leaning to the side Legion is sitting on, so maybe it needs another year of growing really ...

Rick if they can't move by jumping branches, then yes they get down and walk from tree to tree. Legion had to walk to this tree and back out again.
Getting on the ground puts them at the highest risk for attack by dogs, and if they have to cross a road ... it also takes a lot of energy to climb down and up trees and travel along the ground. koalas don't get much energy from their diet, so it's hard on them when their habitat is being so destroyed as they have to use so much energy to get to trees and they have to take such risks
at least when moving this way on my property there are no dogs or roads, but not so when they move off my property :(
