Berny joined our family in February of 2009 and this photo was taken in September of 2011 and re-edited today. Berny was found wandering in North Georgia and was thought to be a Great Pyrenees mix but may have been a Central Asian shepherd. He was about 2 years old and we were blessed to have him in our family for 9 1/2 years. He was a big dog... 125 pounds... fiercely loyal and protective. Delivery folks were known to toss packages up our front stairs rather than get near our front door with this big guy in the front window. Security system by big dog! Berny passed away in September of 2018... he was in rehab for a blown knee he was diagnosed with an aggressive form of bone cancer. His nickname was B-Dawg.... and this nickname came about after watching the Disney movie with the golden retrievers... I'm a sucker for dog movies and dog books... what can I say. Berny was our hunk of love and is missed every day.
I'm a big sucker for dogs, too. Sorry for your loss, KV. Berny was very handsome. BTW, if you know of anyone with rough collie pups - I'm on the lookout for a male. Decided my last pet would be what I want and I want a lassie dog again. Going to name him Wilford from the old English and Scottish which means desires peace.
@marlboromaam Will do Maggie & thanks... I had a tricolor collie named Duke when I was growing up... then Kate and I decided on Shelties and we got a male and female - they were also tricolor. So beautiful.
@mittens thanks Marilyn... he was a beautiful boy.
@gapandgain thanks so much... it is one of my favorties.
@seattlite thanks for taking the time to read it and comment Gloria... most appreciated.
@kvphoto Too cool! My collie in during my teens was named Duke. They are such sweet tempered dogs. Something to keep me going. I had a friend with shelties. They're lovely.
Such a wonderful profile. Thanks for letting us into a little bit of Berny's life. I lost a fantastic Black Lab and he's in my thoughts very often. Big dogs really are quite different than small dogs.
To have been graced with a rescue pup such as Berny (aka b-dawg) was nothing short of a gift. He looks to have been a most lovely and protective family member.
@marlboromaam our Shelties were herders for sure... we lived in the flight path of the Atlanta airport when we had them... our Kethry ran in circles in the backyard trying to herd the planes! Our boy’s name was Rip... AKC name Sail On Riptide... they were cool dogs.
@theredcamera this was our first foray into the world of big dogs... they presented some challenges until we got them leash trained but they were so awesome.
Oh this one is completely delicious! Such a lovely close up, super texture on the fur. I can just imagine how much you miss this solid dependable character.
