Last Saturday was the Wye Valley Trail Race, a nice strenuous 15.2 mile race back and forth from England and Wales, starting and finishing in Chepstow. The hill climbs are massive and really drain your energy, so it’s really nice to finish and get the rewards.
You get a special tea shirt, a baseball cap and of course the large medal which you can see round my neck. It took about 2. 5 hours and your legs are drained out by the finishing line.
Well I did complete it in a sort of way, my youngest Son actually ran it, and as I promised him I sat at home and supported his efforts all the way from my settee. My excuse was I actually couldn't take part due to it being Saturday and I have my football work.
Now there are other reasons why I should have the medal, firstly I manufactured him and all his working organs. Secondly I taught him to walk and without that he wouldn't be able to run so well. Unfortunately I think I also gave him a wonky knee, just like mine, but he's had an operation on his to get him through these challenges.
Now to be honest I couldn't really keep this award even with the reasons I give you, so he had to put it back round his neck after this capture was taken. Do you think I was right to give him it back?
Perhaps he would let you have the baseball hat as you have stated some very good reasons above for your qualification as to an award.
He must be in great shape, that is a long race. Hats off to him:)
You should be very proud of your son in sharing the award. Hats off and wild encouragement to his running next year. But that I could even walk that distance and terrain in a day.
I can totally see your points as fair. Moreover, he should have left you the medal, for safekeeping. Who knows how he might misplace it... a mother knows better (however, it doesn't mean she remembers better, after putting it in a safe place, for keeping) :)
I think you deserve this award hands down Heather….who are our dear sons if not for us, our genes & upbringing make them the men they are….a pat on the back….your encouragement is everything.
He must be in great shape, that is a long race. Hats off to him:)
